School Uniform
At Pakefield Primary School we hope that children learn to take pride in themselves and in their school. Uniform is compulsory but children also need to feel comfortable. Our school uniform achieves these aims and is as follows:
- Grey skirts, trousers or tailored shorts
- Red gingham summer dress
- White polo shirt
- Maroon sweatshirt, cardigan or jumper
- Sensible, black shoes (no flashing lights or heelys etc)
- Winter only - sensible, plain boots below the knee in black, brown or burgundy
We advise parents to provide flat shoes to avoid any accidents that could occur, especially when using the staircases. School shoes should be worn all year and no open sandals should be worn during the summer weather.
No trainers or heels allowed.
Sweatshirts and white polo shirts may be purchased from Screens. It is essential that each item of clothing is clearly marked with your child’s name. All lost uniform will be returned to pupils if it is named.
No hooded tops are allowed to be worn as uniform.
Wearing of Jewellery
Jewellery should not be worn for school, with the possible exception of simple wrist watches that are discreet.
Children who have pierced ears must only wear earrings with a rounded stud as other types can be dangerous. We recommend that ears are pierced at the beginning of the summer holiday so they may be removed for PE.
NB: All jewellery must be removed for all physical education activities including swimming. In the case of earrings these must be removed or covered with sticking plaster – children should have a roll of micropore tape in their PE bags. Children need to do this themselves or remove the earrings before coming to school.
Nail polish is not allowed – children may be politely asked to remove polish at school.
Hair colour must be a natural colour and one shade only. We do not accept extreme hair styles or colours that can distract others. Hair bands, ornaments and clips should be discreet and not be a distraction to children or obstruct others view of the board.
Sportswear
All children in KS1 and KS2 will need 2 sets of PE kit.
Children in the Reception classes only need indoor PE kit and Nursery children only require plimsolls.
Children will need black sports shorts, white t-shirt and black plimsolls for indoor PE. These need to be kept in school in a named bag. As children will be taking part in sport and PE outside during the colder months, they will need a warm tracksuit/hooded top to wear with outdoor trainers.
Plimsolls are not appropriate for outdoor use.
Please ensure your child has access to their warm kit at all times, most children leave their bags in school for half a term.
A swimming costume, towel and hat for swimming will also be required for Year 5 children but prior notice will be given when this takes place.
Cost of living
We ask that at least sweatshirts and cardigans have our school logo on it. These can be purchased from Screens. We have no preference regarding places to purchase other items of uniform.
We have lots of very good quality items of previously loved school uniform for parents to buy at a fraction of the cost. Members of the PTA wash and store these items. The PTA can be contacted through the school.
